BaptismHoly Baptism

“Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church.  The bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble” (The Book of Common Prayer, p. 298).In the waters of baptism we are lovingly adopted by God into God’s family, which we call the Church, and given God’s own life to share and reminded that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ.Holy Baptism is appropriately administered within the Eucharist as the chief service on a Sunday or other feast (BCP pg. 298).  “Holy Baptism is especially appropriate at the Easter Vigil, on the Day of Pentecost, on All Saints’ Day or the Sunday after All Saints’ Day, and on the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord (the First Sunday after the Epiphany).”   Christ Church follows the recommendation that, “as far as possible, Baptisms be reserved for these occasions or when a bishop is present.” (BCP pg. 312)If you are interested in receiving the sacrament of Holy Baptism for yourself or for a family member, please call the church office at (856) 845-0190, or make your desire know to the rector.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is defined as a “mature public affirmation” of Christian faith (The Book of Common Prayer, p. 412).  For those baptized as infants or as young children, it serves to confirm the vows that were made on their behalf at their baptism. For adults growing in their spiritual life, Confirmation recognizes a maturing Christian faith.

Those desiring to be confirmed must have entered the ninth grade, and have completed a course of instruction. In the Episcopal Church, Confirmation is administered by a bishop in historic succession with the laying on of hands.

The bishop’s visit is also the time at which those confirmed in another church by a bishop ordained in apostolic succession may be received into the Episcopal Church.
