Greater Woodbury Cooperative Ministries
The GWCM is a consortium of local churches, including Christ Church, which contribute both food and outreach financial support to operate two food banks: one housed at the Woodbury Friends Meeting and another at the Colonial Manor Methodist Church. What can you do? A weekly contribution of just one food item by each parish family would be a wonderful start. Your contributions reduce the amount of food that must be purchased. In addition, your stewardship pledge allows Christ Church to budget funds for this important outreach.

Attention all knitters, crocheters, and quilters! The ECW Trinity Guild will be organizing an ongoing project with the non-profit organization called Project Linus. Project Linus was started to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers”. We would love your participation in this project. If you enjoy knitting and/or crocheting, we will be collecting blankets of all sizes (please keep in mind the children range in age from 0-18 years and because many of the children are ill and in hospitals, the organization requires that the blankets come from a smoke free environment).

The Feast of Saint Florian: Patron Saint of Firefighters

On the Sunday closest to May 4, The Feast of Saint Florian, Christ Church in Woodbury, in cooperation with the Gloucester County Fire Chief’s Association, hosts a gathering to honor the lives and ministries of sworn firefighters and to sanctify their service in the name of God. The public is encouraged to attend and lend its support to the men and women of the Gloucester County Fire Departments.

The festivities begin with a static display of selected equipment from participating fire departments, followed by a formal blessing of the fire trucks. Then the procession down Delaware Street begins as firefighters dressed in Class A uniform, led by the Emerald Society Pipes-and-Drums Corps, and joined by vested clergy and the Christ Church choir, follow a processional cross into the church for solemn Evensong, a service of praise and thanksgiving. Local clergy of various denominations participate, and Fire Association chaplains take a leadership role in the Evensong.

In May of 2011 we marked our sixth year observance of this feast day.

The Greater Woodbury CROP Walk (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) is a six-mile walk to raise money for hunger. The CROP Walk takes place on the first Sunday in May. Christ Church just completed its fifth year of participation!

More and more in today’s economy, people are experiencing hard times. You can make a difference!! The donations collected from the walk go to the Church World Service, to support hunger relief programs world-wide. Our local food bank, the Greater Woodbury Cooperative Ministries receives 25% of the funds collected.
